On This Day In Baltimore Orioles History: 5/17/1983 #35thAnniversary

The Baltimore Orioles swept the Chicago White Sox in a doubleheader on this day in 1983.  The Orioles won the first game 7-2 and then the second game 5-0.

In the first game, Mike Flanagan started and lasted just 0.1 innings (he gave up 1 hit) before being relieved by Sammy Stewart.  Tim Stoddard pitched the final 3.0 innings for the win; he gave up 1 hit and no runs while walking three and striking out three.

Dan Ford had a big day at the plate going 3 for 5 with two runs scored and one RBI.  Eddie Murray went 2 for 4 with a run scored and a RBI as well.

In the second game Mike Boddicker threw a complete game, 5 hit shutout; he walked one and struck out eight.  The win was Boddicker’s first of the year.

Jim Dwyer had the big game offensively as he went 3 for 4 with a run scored.  Cal Ripken, Jr, Eddie Murray and Gary Roenicke all had 2 hits each while Leo Hernandez and Rick Dempsy each hit a homerun.
