The Baltimore Orioles beat the Oakland Athletics 9-2 on this day in 1983.

Dennis Martinez (2-5) went the distance giving up the 2 earned runs on 8 hits while striking out 4 and walking 1.  Only two A’s batters, Rickey Henderson and Jeff Burroughs, were able to get more than one hit off of “El Presidente”.  The two runs were both the result of homeruns, one to Kelvin Moore and the other to Bob Kearney.

Cal Ripken, Jr lead the way for the Orioles with a 3 for 5 day at the plate; he scored 2 runs, had 4 RBI and hit 2 homeruns.  Dan Ford also blasted a homerun and had a double as he went 3 for 5 with 3 runs scored and 2 RBI.
