On This Day In Orioles History: 4/20/1983 #35thAnniversary


The Baltimore Orioles lost to the Texas Rangers 11-2 on this day in 1983.

Dennis Martines lasted just 2.1 innings and was saddled with the loss, his third on the season.  He gave up 6 hits and 6 runs (none earned) before being relieved by Don Welchel, who fared no better as he gave up 4 runs (3 earned) on 9 hits.

The Birds committed 3 errors on the day: Cal Ripken, Eddie Murray and Martinez each had one.

Eddie Murray was the none offensive star; he went 2 for 4 with a homerun, run scored and RBI on the day.

Mike Smithson threw an eight-hit complete game for the win.

Season Record: 7-5
